A day of firsts
January 20th, 2009 was an amazing day. As I watched our new president being sworn in, I felt a since of pride in this country that I haven't felt in a long time...actually ever. I watched the ceremony with many other Obama supporters, most of them teary-eyed like myself. Mason was also there (he slept through much of it) and I could not help but be thrilled and excited that these events were happening in his first year. I truly believe that we as a nation have an opportunity to achieve and realize the change we've been dreaming of, and that we have no choice but to do so if we desire a future for our children and our children's children. It's clear that we have some difficult tasks ahead of us, but I do believe that "yes we can" make it happen. If you have not yet heard his speech, visit youtube and check it out.
Barack Obama Inauguration Speech
This being a day of such historical significance, I thought it would be a great day for Mason to try his first solid food! He's been showing us many signs that he's ready, so we decided to give it a try. We decided to go with avocado mixed with a little breast milk as his first meal. He did great for his first time eating! It seemed to go over well, and though milk will still be his main nutrition source for a while, I feel good about his introduction to a yummy, healthy diet. Some more "first foods" for Mason in the next month will be winter squash, sweet potato, rice cereal, pears and more. Here are some photos from his first meal, as well as some other favorites from the last couple of weeks. Enjoy!
